It can be hard to see a perfectly good piece of furniture on its way to the landfill. It’s no secret that the amount of trash produced by humans is cause for environmental concern. Well, what if there was a way to breathe new life into perfectly good items - and help the environment while you’re at it? Meet Boulevard.
What is Boulevard?
Boulevard is a trendy, Instagram-esque mobile (iOS) application intended to help users sustainably source furniture that would have otherwise been thrown out. With a location-based sharing system, Boulevard will keep you in the loop on items that are up for grabs. It will even allow users to search recent posts in their area if they’re looking for something specific.
As someone who prioritizes sustainability in my everyday life, Boulevard was a passion project inspired by what the cool kids call “Stooping.” Stooping, according to Urban Dictionary, is “the Post-covid economic term given to street scavenging for household goods.” By making Stooping trendy and easy to do, it’s more likely to inspire people to rescue items and save the Earth!
The focus of this project was to design a mobile application that utilizes location-based sharing from start to finish. I created Wireframes, Prototypes, and a sheet of Design Components.
Branding Guide
For Boulevard, one of the aspects I wanted to practice was creating a branding guide. The guide includes 4 elements: Logo, Colors, Fonts, and Tagline. Each of these are design components that may be requested by a client for graphic/web design so I wanted to build one for this app.
With a style guide put together, I was able to implement this branding into the final execution of the application.
Final Wireframes
Ultimately, I am ecstatic about the final result of Boulevard. It came to life as a modern and beautiful dark-mode application with stylish elements and all of the handy tools we love about social media.
The app features ways to share posts outside of Boulevard, create a new listing, follow and interact with other users, and create private conversations. With a social media app like Boulevard, I believe more people would be inclined to participate in “Stooping.”
